About me
Zoe Papadopoulou is a UK based artist. She completed a BA in Fine Art at Middlesex University and a Masters in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art. Her practice is primarily concerned with the politics and implications of new technologies. She collaborates with scientists and ethicists to probe discussions on the impact they will have on public groups. From the RCA, to primary school fetes, to the windows of the Wellcome Trust, Zoe’s execution and unique perspective bridge the gap between new technologies and the people they are potentially most going to affect.

  • Nuclear Dialogues
Nuclear DialoguesThis project aims to deal with the contentious area of nuclear fission by choosing an open, non-judgemental environment, designed for dialogue rather than dispute. The inviting setting of a tea party allows for engaging discussion about the technology and its by-products, predominantly excess heat and hot water. Rather than imposing solutions, the discussion encourages suggestions as to how by-products can benefit communities living in close proximity to the reactors. Participation is encouraged through a tasting of ‘yellowcake’ – a colloquialism for uranium oxide U3O8, an essential ingredient in the preparation of uranium fuel for nuclear reactors. The designer, along with scientists from Nuclear FiRST, devised a recipe for an edible yellowcake, using ingredients that contain radioactive isotopes, to challenge entrenched viewpoints and misunderstandings of risk.
  • Reproductive Futures
Reproductive FuturesFunded by a Wellcome Trust Arts Award. From tales about the stork, to the ‘birds and the bees’, we have long used story-telling as a way to inform children about families, and ‘where babies come from’. In the last forty years we have progressed from the first IVF babies, to the current discussion of creating artificial gametes from stem cells or somatic cells. This presents the potential for ‘sperm’ or ‘eggs’ to be created from anyone-regardless of gender, age or sexuality. Within the content of
  • The Cloud Project
The Cloud ProjectThe Cloud Project is a modified ice-cream van that presents a series of experiments to make clouds snow ice-cream. Inspired by developments in nanotechnology and planetary-scale engineering, it points to new possibilities where we develop the means to conform the global environment to our needs. These advances combined with a dream to make clouds snow ice cream have inspired a series of experiments that look at ways to alter the composition of clouds to make new and delicious sensory experiences

The result? A unique and incredible list of 200 trailblazing women breaking barriers and inspiring change! Only 36% of jobs in the creative sector are currently filled by women. At the top of the tree there’s an even bigger problem - women make up only 11% of Creative Directors. In an attempt to change this, our month-lo
